Information For Our Guests

Although we don’t wander too far from the beach while we’re in town, there are a lot of local interests you may want to visit during your vacation.  We’ve listed just a few on this page, from activities such as golf to dining choices, these are by no means our supported recommendations, but just a few ideas.

Should You Need Directions To Our Condos

Your Beach Escape condos are all located in North Myrtle Beach, SC.   They are just east of Kings Highway (Highway 17) and only minutes away from many great restaurants, shows and shopping.

From the north on I-95 South, it will take approximately 7 hours from Maryland and 8 ½ hours from Lancaster, PA. For those in Columbus, Ohio the drive is approximately 9 ½ hours.

A listing of rest areas can be found on the I-95 exit guide, like this one that has a list for I-95 exits in North Carolina. That site has road construction, toll information and gas price links, too.

Directions From I-95 Heading South to North Myrtle Beach, SC

The State of Virginia is known for handing out expensive speeding tickets with numerous officers all along I-95.

While gas is less expensive in South Carolina than it is in North Carolina, the last leg of the trip will be somewhat rural so be sure to stop for gas or a rest break if traveling late at night or if you are unsure if you need a break.

In North Carolina, exit I-95 southbound onto US-74 East. Continue on US-74 East and take the exit toward Chadbourn from US-74 E onto NC-130 E/NC-410 S in Columbus County, NC. Your GPS should then take you to SC-9 and then closer to N. Myrtle Beach to SC-31. SC-31/Robert Edge Parkway turns into Main Street at Kings Highway/Highway 17.

Take a right from SC-31 and proceed south on Highway 17 until your GPS alerts you to turn left (east) to your condo!

Directions From Toronto, Canada

The trip from Toronto is approximately 14 1/2 hours.

Fastest, shortest yet scenic route-Take I-79, to US-19, to I-77 to 52. This route will have you cross the New River Gorge Bridge.

Alternately, take I-77 to I-74 to Winston-Salem. From there I-40 to I-73/US 220 in Greensboro to I-74 in Rockingham. Get on I-74 in the Lumberton area of North Carolina and proceed using the I-95 south instructions.

Scenic stop- New River Gorge Bridge –you can stop at the visitor’s center on the north end of the bridge and walk thru the center looking at the pictures and watch the short movie about how the bridge was built. Then you can walk down to the overlook.

Others like to visit Walton’s Mountain and Mayberry (Mount Airy) on the way south.

Overnight stop-If you want to break the trip up into two days, many travelers from Toronto stop at the 8-9 hour point in Beckley, WV for the night. I-77 , exit 44, Harper Rd has a variety of hotels and restaurants right off the exit. From Beckley it is about 7 hours to Myrtle Beach.

Tips from NY:  From White Plains travel across the Tappan Zee Bridge then heading south on 287 into New Jersey. From there in succession it’s 287 to 78 then to 81 South  into Virginia where you can take 64 East through Charlottesville into Richmond picking up I- 95 south. This way is about 90 miles longer than taking I-95 south the whole way but it avoids all the traffic by sidestepping NYC, the Jersey Turnpike, Baltimore and D.C. / Northern Virginia. DC traffic is probably at its worse from 3pm to 7pm and Friday is particularly bad so timing is sometimes everything. Same for Charlottesville, evening rush hour can add time to the trip.

Also missing all those tolls (over $20) easily pays for the gas for the extra mileage.

Bonus is coming down through the 81 corridor is much more scenic (weather permitting) and without all the commuter traffic much more relaxing.

Directions From Atlanta, GA

Take I-20 (East) to I-95 North. Take Hwy 327 south to Hwy 301 North. Basically 301 runs parallel to I-95 so by taking Hwy 327 south you stay on the faster I-95 as long as possible then cut south using Hwy 327 to connect to Hwy 301. Then take Hwy 576 and then Hwy 501 south. Trip takes approximately 3 hours 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Happy to assist either way!

Beach Information

North Myrtle Beach has four distinct beachfronts that from north to south are Cherry Grove beach, Ocean Drive Beach, Crescent Beach and Windy Hill Beach.

North Myrtle Beach was created in 1968 from four different municipalities. That is why the City of Atlantic Beach and its’ Atlantic Beach follows Crescent Beach from North to South before Windy Hill Beach, “interrupting” the line of North Myrtle Beach’s beaches.

More on Atlantic Beach

Windy Hill Beach is known for its wide, sandy expanse which reduces crowding during the peak summer season. Depending on the tide, it is a great area for finding sea shells (“shelling”), for walking, jogging, watching the sun rise and set, and playing in the ocean.

Sea Villa’s beach access is the 46th Avenue South access on the Windy Hill Beach and the house’s access is 33rd Avenue South. Windy Hill is a particularly desirable part of North Myrtle Beach as it is more residential and thus crowds and noise on the beach tend to be lower than south in Myrtle Beach. A more “laid back” beach, it is considered couple and family friendly. Windy Hill beach ends at the south on the Intercostal Waterway.

All of the North Myrtle Beaches are a public beach and have near daily trash removal and generally have the sand grated before sunrise to smooth the sand for that day’s fun. As a result of his beach maintenance, nothing can be left on the beach unattended after 7 p.m. until 7 a.m.

Year around, umbrellas with a center pole no greater than 7’ 6” in height with a circular shade no greater than 9’ in diameter are permitted. Likewise, baby tents no larger than 36” high by 36” wide by 36” deep may be used to shade persons 18 months of age or under.  No umbrellas or other shading devices may be placed within the emergency vehicle access lanes which are generally marked by the lifeguards during lifeguard season.

Please note, from 15 May to 15 September the City limits beach shading to umbrellas with circular shading of 9’ in diameter, preventing the use tarps and similar view obstructing devices that impact other beach visitors experience.

Alcohol is illegal on the beach and fireworks are illegal in the city of North Myrtle Beach. There are lifeguards along the beach during the summer days and they will have flags to indicate the rip tide risk.

If you dig a hole in the sand the city and county ask that you fill it in so walkers and joggers do not get injured and so endangered sea turtles do not get trapped on their way to or from the ocean. The state also requests people stay out of the protected and fragile dunes that you will see partially covered with sea oats and other vegetation to preserve the dune system that wildlife relies on for nesting areas and humans need as a buffer to the ocean during storms.

From 1 March to 31 October during the hours of 9am to 5pm, beach parking will cost $3 per hour!

Ocean Tides

Ocean tides are an amazing phenomenon to watch from the shore as the ocean swallows and then relinquishes large portions of the beach each day and night. Feel like a local and see when the next high or low tide period is.

Chair and umbrella rental Information:

If you want to rent chairs/umbrellas, it is suggested that you reserve your dates with the service of your choice or the provider might be sold out when you call.

The best price on a beach umbrella/chair rental is from North Strand Beach Service. They have other common household rental items available, too. Only the city is allowed to set up the umbrellas and chairs. But North Strand Beach can deliver the umbrellas and chairs to the rental for your use during the week. We recommend you simply brush the sand off at the end of the day and store them in your trunk for the next day.

City Beach Services in N. Myrtle Beach also provides umbrellas and chairs rentals but are more expensive. You might have a better quality chair and umbrella with this direct to the beach service for the higher price. https://www.nmb.us/217/Chair-Umbrella-Rentals

Handicap Accessible Beach Access Locations:

The condo at Sea Villas are a short walk to the beach, and the entrance has an accessible (handicap) ramp.  There are several accessible (handicap) parking spots at this location but they fill early.

The Pilot Club of North Myrtle Beach provided several Beach Wheelchairs for use by our community and those visitors staying in North Myrtle Beach.  Chairs are available Sunday thru Saturday from 8am until 5pm. Reservations for wheelchairs are encouraged and can be made one year in advance.  A beach wheelchair can be reserved for a maximum of one (1) week at a time. For availability call Beach Services at (843) 663-8600.

Shelling & Sea Life

Our Sea Turtles in South Carolina are on the threatened or endangered species list, so nesting season is very important!

Typically, you’ll see loggerhead turtles on the South Carolina coast, but our coast offers natural habitat for Kemp’s Ridley, Leatherback, and Green Sea Turtles as well.  All species of sea turtle are on the Endangered or Threatened species lists and are protected by federal and state laws.

Nesting season runs from May to October. Generally the turtles will build a nest in the protected grassy area adjacent to the sand of the beach. If you see a nest, do NOT disturb it. Instead, contact the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and report it so volunteers can hide and protect it. Volunteers later in the nesting season will then help ensure the young get safely to the ocean when they begin their trek.

You can also contact DNR should a sea turtle wash ashore. They will allow a SC aquarium to rehabilitate the sea turtle so he or she can be returned to the sea. The DNR encourages the public to report live, healthy sea turtles here: https://www.seaturtle.org/istor/. For dead, injured or sick sea turtles, please contact the SCDNR Hotline at 1-800-922-5431. For general Sea Turtle information, visit the DNR web site at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/seaturtle

Ever see people walking the beach in bright green tee shirts? They are North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol volunteers on the look out for turtle tracks and turtles!

Bird Identification

There is a variety of wildlife on the beach. Many birds migrate to Crescent Beach from Canada and the Artic to winter in warmer climates. Therefore, experts recommend humans avoid walking near feeding birds who are trying to recover from or get ready for the trip to and from their nesting areas to the north. If you find a bird on the shore unable to fly and in distress, during normal business hours the N. Myrtle Beach police will dispatch an animal control officer to investigate. Their number is 1-843-280-5619-ask for animal control and be prepared to give the estimated location.

She is probably NOT a sandpiper, but what is she? Here is a great site of all the sandpiper like birds that you will see on the beach! Whatbird.com

Shelling!!!

Sea Shell Inventory-Need to take a break from your sea shell search and assess your find? This South Carolina Park site names all the shells you are likely to have found.

Are you shell addicted!! Ask to join this Facebook group- Shellinator SeaCrafts. Cute ideas how to display shells, some shell art sold but generally sharing the love of shells.

Family Activities

Outdoors other than the beach

Swimming pool

There is no good way to store wet pool toys in a condo at the beach so we do not have “noodles”  or similar pool toys in the condo. But they are widely available at Dollar Tree or Wal Mart if you want an inexpensive pool toy. If you have emptied out your trunk, your car trunk actually becomes a convient storage location for beach chairs and water toys! We keep a small wisk broom in our trunk to sweep off lingering sand before the chairs go in the trunk.

Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve in North Myrtle Beach is a scenic overview of the picturesque Cherry Grove Marsh. Created in 2004, the park provides paved parking and foot access to the inlet to look at natures plants and animals in a quiet setting. The North Myrtle Beach web site has the address and additional information.

Yow Park is a short walk west from the Sea Villa condo that has a small playground, half basketball court and picnic area. Shaded by lovely trees, it is a quiet setting handy for young families. It’s address if 508 Windy Hill Road.

Vereen Memorial Historical Garden is north in Little River, along the Intracoastal Waterway.  Open Monday-Saturday 9AM – 5PM, if offers more than 115 acres of forest and marshland and approximately 3 miles of nature trails and boardwalks that meander through its botanical gardens and along its waterfront. A small segment of the original Kings Highway, a colonial route between Boston and Charleston, still remains on the property, behind the CB Berry Community Center. 843-249-4157  2250 Hwy 179, Little River 29566

Huntington State Park where alligators and birds live. Their web site has information about the park’s wide variety of programming.

There is a chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close and the park’s freshwater lake offers opportunities to see alligators and sometimes a mink.

Heritage Shores Nature Preserve has an easy, mile long loop trail. There is signage throughout the park describing the plants, animals, fish and birds that can be seen in the park. Their web site has additional information.

Kayak Rentals-Rent kayaks through Great Escapes Kayak Expeditions and go down the Waccamaw River. Watch the river banks that flow through the lowlands and see a variety of birds and wildlife.

Other activities

Banana Boat and Parasail Gliding-Just north of Sanabel during the summer is a local company who offers banana boat rides and parasail gliding. South of Sea Villa in Atlantic Beach similar services are offered.

Putt Putt/Mini-golf-Too many to list here! Highway 17 has many to choose from.

Tennis?-let us know if you are interested in tennis and staying at Sea Villa, we have an inside scoop on the good tennis spots for you.

Coupons-When you go into a local grocery store pick up a coupon book or two (and look in your condo as other guests may have left some for your use). Typically the helicopter rides, mini/putt-putt golf and various other entertainment, dining, and shopping venues offer discount coupons. Check online for specials, too.

The Alabama Theatre in Barefoot Landing is near Your Beach Escape’s Sea Villa condos on Kings Highway. The theater hosts their own shows and has guest appearances. Its shows have won multiple awards. If you call the box office, kids get in free. Details on the free kids, shows, appearance times and prices can be found on their web site.

Carolina Opry is south of North Myrtle Beach in Myrtle Beach but ticket prices are less than The Alabama Theater. It hosts a variety of their own and visiting shows. They sometimes run deals on their web site which also has details on shows and pricing.

Feel like a kid again and strap on some bowling shoes and try out a few games!  Near the condos is 710 Bowling that offers not just bowling, but ping pong, bocce ball, cornhole and darts included in the price on a first come basis. Food and beverages are also available. While they have a web site, you might want to call to check on availability (so you do not visit during league practice or a big birthday party!) and spend the day challenging yourself or each other to some games! (843) 663-BOWL

Wee-R-Sweetz Candy Store-With a location in Barefoot Landing and on NMB’s Main Street, there is one near each condo!! The homemade taffy is suitable for vegans. They let you pick a piece to try before you buy one of the many flavors to choose from. It runs around $9/pound.

Shopping

Tanger Outlet Mall

A pleasant outdoor mall, Tanger Outlet is south of Your Beach Escape and offers a variety of typical outlet mall stores.

Barefoot Landing

Located along Kings Highway, this popular and comfortable outdoor shopping area has unique shops, ample restaurants to choose from and several entertainment options. There is a property map and calendar of events on their web page.

J Bryan Floyd Community Center

6 indoor pickleball courts available Monday through Friday at1030 Possum Trot Road, North Myrtle Beach. Tennis and outdoor pickleball available, too.

Adult Beverages

Enjoy learning about the process and techniques behind your glass of wine? North Myrtle Beach has several nearby wineries that produce wine the old fashioned way, without the shortcuts used by bulk wine producers. These local wineries do not use milk, eggs, or honey in the product nor do they use isinglass (fish bladders) or gelatin (ground up bones) in the processing/filtration of the product.

Note that both Duplin and Caroline Vineyards Winery’s use muscadine grapes and produce very sweet wine that happen to be vegan.

Duplin Winery

In Barefoot Landing, this Rose Hill, NC winery has a lovely tasting center showcasing a designated list of their wines.  While you can buy their wines in the local Kroger, it is probably more fun to taste a few first and see which ones are your favorite! The tasting experience is more expensive and ‘structured’ than the other venue’s and can be crowded in the summer. Details are on their web site.

Carolina Vineyards Winery

Also at Barefoot Landing is Carolina Vineyards Winery’s tasting center for their winery that produces wine from many state grown fruits.  They produce DRY, SEMI-DRY, MEDIUM and SWEET wines.  Very casual tasting experience but bottles of wine themselves are more expensive than Duplin. Hours, location and pricing information can be found at their web site.

Costal Wine Boutique & Tasting Room

If going to visit the Carolina Vineyards Winery tasting center, do not confuse the Costal Wine Tasting room with the Carolina Vineyards Winery tasting room.

Carolina Vineyards is a working winery. Costal Wine Boutique is a wine shop and tasting room but is not associated with a vineyard. Costal Wine Boutique offers wines from literally around the world from small wineries so they probably use traditional wine making techniques so are probably suitable for vegans. None of the bottles available for sale had prices on them. You do not have to wait for a group to join you like at Duplin Winery. Barefoot Landing is one of the two locations of this wine outlet. Their web site has additional details.

La Belle Amie Vineyard

This Vineyard, located in North Carolina, sells wine under the name Twisted Sisters. They are open Tuesday through Saturday north of the condos in Little River. Their web site provides additional details.

Kentucky Mist Distillery

The Kentucky Mist Distillery is a craft distillery located in Kentucky near West Virginia and has a tasting room in Barefoot Landing. You can sample all the ‘regular’ or fruit infused moonshines for a price based on sample glass size. All moonshine are made from natural ingredients and are vegan. For more on the distillery visit their web site.

Craft Beer locations

All the craft beer breweries are located in Myrtle Beach. Visit their web sites for hours and location details.

House Operating Instructions

Vacation Rental Operation Tips for 2 Bedroom House

Televisions

Please place all 3 television remotes in their holder before checking out.

Living Room-Roku TV

Roku TV is like any other smart TV, meaning it’s a TV that lets you use internet streaming services, apps, and other features without having to use any external devices. It uses the Roku Operating System (OS) so the Roku TV allows you to use any service you subscribe to at home.

Press the red power button in the center top of the Roku TV remote. This screen appears:

Home-to get back to this screen later, press the home button on the remote. (upper right of remote).

If you pay for at home/have an account at home for the following, then you can log into them here: Paramount, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock, Hulu, Showtime, Disney, HBO Max, Starz, Apple TV, Discovery Plus, ESPN. If you have Netflix, Disney plus, apple tv, or HBO Max subscriptions then you can use the indicated button on the bottom of the remote to use that ap.

If you do not have an account at home, you can watch the following for free (but many have advertising):  Youtube, Roku, Pluto.

If you are a ‘gamer’, there is no way to play internet based games with a Roku TV.

Spectrum tv app

The home has Spectrum wifi so you can use the Spectrum tv app and get basic cable channels by selecting the Spectrum “app”.

Use the purple up/down/side to side buttons to move among the apps. Once you have selected Spectrum, hit the middle purple “OK” button.

To change channels while watching the Spectrum cable app, press the purple “Right” button and the list of available channels appears to the right. Press the purple up/down button to scroll up and down the channel list.  Press the center purple “ok” button to change to the indicated channel.

Volume: Volume control is on the right of the Roku tv remote.

Bedroom TVs-Standard Smart TVs

Both bedroom TVs are standard smart tvs.

Smart TVs, much like smartphones, offer internet connectivity and support for a range of apps. This opens up a world of new entertainment options, from streaming video for your paid subscriptions like Netflix and Hulu to playing games. Ad supported free streaming services like PlutoTV, Tubi and Crackle are also available.

On-press the power button on the upper right. It takes a few seconds to wake up. Then press the input button on the upper left, then press the home button in the center of the remote.  Select your paid subscription service. You can also select the watch free button directly above the “ok” button and watch some free tv.

Bedroom Ceiling Fans/Lights

Please place both light/fan remotes in their holder in the bedroom closet before checking out.

Bedroom wall switch turns on/off both fan and light together. To have either the fan or the light on, that remote is in the bedroom closet.

Dishwasher– Bosch is a German company so the operation is different than American made units.

Open the door slightly to reveal operation buttons. Press “Start” button on the far right. Option buttons are in the middle but generally “auto” works for all circumstances. You will only need to press the “On/Off” button (far left) if the house power has gone out and powered down the dishwasher. Close the dishwasher door. You will now see a red dot on the floor to indicate it is washing. Dishwasher liquid is under the sink. Bosch dishwasher is very quiet.

When you pull the bottom rack out you will note it does not roll smoothly on tracks and then sits on the dishwasher door when fully extended. That is how it is designed to minimize parts inside the dishwasher itself. The “third rack” at the very top is for odd shaped items.

Filtered Water-The faucet on the right is filtered water.

Living room light switches. Press and hold for just a second the green button and the fan light will turn on. Press again to turn the light off. The grey buttons turn the fan on and adjust the speeds. The lever button on the bottom turns the whole light/fan assembly on or off.

Bathroom shower

There are 2 ‘wheels’ in the shower. The middle control is for the temperature. The lowest wheel turns on and off the water for the bath tub. The top most one controls the shower. It is recommended you turn on the bottom wheel and let the cold water run out of the pipes for a few seconds. Then adjust the temperature on the middle wheel. Finally, turn off the bottom wheel and turn on the shower wheel. Once you have set the middle temperature, future showers you can just step in, turn on the top wheel, let the cold water run out a few seconds and your shower should always be perfect!

Air Condition/Heat units

Please place all 3 A/C-Heater remotes in their holder before checking out.

The living room and both bedrooms have a wall unit. DO NOT TOUCH THE WALL UNIT. They break easily and are controlled from the remote. If our cleaner finds you have broken one, the unit replacement is $225 and the maintenance charges us $175 fix fee so YOU will be billed $400.

The remote must be kept in the cradle in the wall away from the unit. The temperature sensing comes from the remote so it needs to be away from the unit.

Living Room

Bedrooms

Press “On” (button #1) and it will beep and the unit will illuminate a temperature reading on the upper right and a door will lower to operate. Press the -/+ button (button #2) to increase or decrease the temperature by a degree. Select cool or heat if the wrong season had been selected. (button #3 or4).

Fan Speed

A/C or Fan or Heat

Otherwise, gas at the Circle K on Kings Highway a few blocks south of Main Street will generally have the lowest price. The prices tend to consistently be significantly more expensive north in Little River.

Travel Insurance

We know nothing about either company other than they offer travel insurance. Note generally they insure against storms preventing a vacation. They also seem to insure against sickness, injury or death of vacationer and someone in the vacation party. They typically will not insure against change of vacationer’s plans like military orders of vacationer or work hours being changed or boss not allowing vacationer to take vacation.

Dining Out

Informal Dining Ideas

North Myrtle Beach offers restaurants from informal to formal, from pancake houses to buffets and everything in between. If you are looking for something informal for just an easy bite to eat, below might be helpful.

Dining Options

Live Like A Local

Beach Condos

The average American house is 2687 square feet while the average American hotel room is 325 square feet. Our Sea Villa condo is 450 square feet. So like anywhere space is at a premium, you will want to take this into account when packing.

Sand is pervasive, it clings to clothes, equipment, skin and hair. When leaving the beach, take advantage of the convenient shower stations. You can rinse hair and swimsuits with the shower portion and feet and shoes with the foot shower. Shake and brush sand off of chairs and beach accessories and then rinse them, too. As a final effort to defeat the sand, the condo has a small broom at the door to sweep away hitchhiking sand.

Sunscreen is another silent stalker on our skin. It stains sofas, sheets and towels. So be sure to try to scrub it off on the beach shower and then residue in the condo shower to prevent ruining fabrics!

Best Gas Prices

If you have a Kroger (Harris Teeter, many names for the chain) grocery store customer card, the Kroger gas stations with the card give .3 cents per gallon discount. Otherwise, gas at the Circle K on Kings Highway a few blocks south of Main Street at 6th Ave South or at 21st Ave South will generally have the lowest price.
