About Your Beach Escape
Like many families with children looking towards college, we turned to North Myrtle Beach to provide an excuse to get away as a family and spend time together. We are both retired Navy and love the ocean, and quickly realized we want to retire to North Myrtle Beach one day.
Regardless of why you want to escape to the beach, we look forward to having you as our guest.

Help Protect Our Oceans
Reduce-No more single use bags in grocery stores
Reduce, reuse, recycle works best with the reduce and reuse phases because the cost/benefit of so much of what goes into landfills makes recycling unprofitable and requires additional energy expenditures for the recycling process.
Beyond this, sea life supporters are well aware of the risks of plastic to our sea life. From whales to endangered sea turtles, the plastic binds up their intestines and causes a slow, painful death akin to the death they suffer when they are netted intentionally or coincidentally to be eaten by humans. As a result, North Myrtle Beach effective 1 January 2020 N. Myrtle Beach has banned single use grocery bags in grocery stores. So, bring your own reusable bags for your grocery shopping trips!
Reduce-Turn down single use straws
Many restaurants in the Grand Strand are now not automatically providing straws with beverages to reduce straw usage. They are typically available upon request however, just ask!
Reuse
If you like bargains then reusing items no longer needed by a prior owner is a great way to help the environment. From saving on the materials and energy needed to produce and ship new products, it also helps reduce premature landfill disposal. North Myrtle Beach has several outlets that might be of interest to “green shoppers”. Along Kings Highway relatively near the condos are a Goodwill, near 8th Avenue South is Under the Sun Flea Market and Dicks Pawn Superstore, and a Salvation Army is east of Kings Highway on Main Street. You can even look for bags to serve as your reusable grocery bags at the thrift stores!
Recycle
While the N. Myrtle Beach trash system uses single stream recycling, it is more efficient for humans to so some presorting and that is why recycle stations continue to have labels. In the N. Myrtle Beach area, they collect paper, aluminum, glass and properly coded recyclable plastic. They do not recycle steal cans like from canned vegetables.
There are recycle bins next to most of the trash bins along the beach in N. Myrtle Beach so cans and paper can be tossed in the single stream cans when departing the beach.
If you are staying at Sea Villa, recycle stations are located across the street from the Sea Villa trash dumpster, in the north end of the parking lot. There is also a recycle station at the public beach entrance.
If you are staying at San-A-Bel, there is a recycle station located on the ground floor parking garage near the north entrance.
Replace
While reduction of any environmentally harmful item is helpful, to “move the needle” on an issue, the top causes must be addressed. For the oceans, the top source of plastic in areas like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is abandoned fishing gear.[i] So replace that fish on your plate with an environmentally friendly Gardein Fishless Filet or Crabless Cake.[ii] Zero cholesterol and lower in fat and calories than fish products, you won’t contribute to the fishing debris filling up the oceans.
Repair
While enjoying the beach, if you do have a single use plastic bag, put it to good use and pick up trash left by others. It will give you an excuse to spend more time in the sand, and there are ample trash bins along the beach to allow you to dump the debris before heading in.

Family Activities
Outdoors other than the beach
Swimming pool
There is no good way to store wet pool toys in a condo at the beach so we do not have “noodles” or similar pool toys in the condo. But they are widely available at Dollar Tree or Wal Mart if you want an inexpensive pool toy. If you have emptied out your trunk, your car trunk actually becomes a convenient storage location for beach chairs and water toys! We keep a small whisk broom in our trunk to sweep off lingering sand before the chairs go in the trunk.
Russell Burgess Coastal Preserve in North Myrtle Beach is a scenic overview of the picturesque Cherry Grove Marsh. Created in 2004, the park provides paved parking and foot access to the inlet to look at nature’s plants and animals in a quiet setting. The North Myrtle Beach web site has the address and additional information.
Yow Park is a short walk west from the Sea Villa condo that has a small playground, half basketball court and picnic area. Shaded by lovely trees, it is a quiet setting handy for young families. It’s address if 508 Windy Hill Road.
Vereen Memorial Historical Garden is north in Little River, along the Intracoastal Waterway. Open Monday-Saturday 9AM – 5PM, if offers more than 115 acres of forest and marshland and approximately 3 miles of nature trails and boardwalks that meander through its botanical gardens and along its waterfront. A small segment of the original Kings Highway, a colonial route between Boston and Charleston, still remains on the property, behind the CB Berry Community Center. 843-249-4157 2250 Hwy 179, Little River 29566
Huntington State Park where alligators and birds live. Their web site has information about the park’s wide variety of programming.
There is a chance to see loggerhead turtles and other endangered plant and animal species up close and the park’s freshwater lake offers opportunities to see alligators and sometimes a mink.
Heritage Shores Nature Preserve has an easy, mile long loop trail. There is signage throughout the park describing the plants, animals, fish and birds that can be seen in the park. Their web site has additional information.

Celebrating Those Special Days
If you are celebrating a birthday, wedding, anniversary or other special occasion, there is no better place than Your Beach Escape! To make your day extra special you may want to do a bit of local shopping.

Dollar Tree is an easy place to get some inexpensive, fun party supplies for your special day. From helium balloons to colorful napkins and paper plates, Dollar Tree is located north of the Sanabel condos north of Main Street or south of the condos somewhat near Tanger outlet mall.
Gifts
Shopping is always in season in the North Myrtle Beach area. South of the condos is the Tanger Outlet mall with a wide variety of stores. Just north of it is the mall with both traditional “anchor” stores as well as some unique stores inside the mall if the weather urges indoor shopping. Of course, nearest the condo is Barefoot Landing with a large number of one-of-a kind shops to visit.
For unique beach gifts, try Boulineau’s located on the 2nd floor of the IGA grocery store in Cherry Grove north of the condos.
Nice meal in town
If you need a special place for a meal you may want to try Martini Restaurant or Grapevine in Calabash for dinner who both sport vegan options upon request.
For a unique experience, try The Calabash Garden Tea Room & Gift Shop, who with 24 hours notice can make your tea 100% vegan.
Special Cake
If you want a cake for the special occasion, Nicole Romano at sweettreats@youeatibake.com comes highly recommended. Enjoy learning about the process and techniques behind your glass of wine? North Myrtle Beach has several nearby wineries that produce wine the old fashioned way, without the shortcuts used by bulk wine producers. These local wineries do not use milk, eggs, or honey in the product nor do they use isinglass (fish bladders) or gelatin (ground up bones) in the processing/filtration of the product.
Note that both Duplin and Caroline Vineyards Winery’s use muscadine grapes and produce very sweet wine.
Duplin Winery
Just east of Sea Villa’s one bedroom condos on Kings Highway, this Rose Hill, NC winery has a lovely tasting center in Barefoot Landing. While you can buy their wines in the local Kroger, it is probably more fun to taste a few first and see which ones are your favorite! Details are on their web site.
Carolina Vineyards Winery
Also at Barefoot Landing is Carolina Vineyards Winery’s tasting center for their winery that produces wine from many state grown fruits. They produce DRY, SEMI-DRY, MEDIUM and SWEET wines. Hours, location and pricing information can be found at their web site.
NOTE!!!
Costal Wine Boutique & Tasting Room
If going to visit the Carolina Vineyards Winery tasting center, do not confuse the Costal Wine Tasting room with the Carolina Vineyards Winery tasting room.
Carolina Vineyards is a working winery. Costal Wine Boutique is a wine shop and tasting room but is not associated with a vineyard. Costal Wine Boutique offers wines from literally around the world from small wineries so they probably use traditional wine making techniques so are probably suitable for vegans. None of the bottles available for sale had prices on them. The Carolina Vineyard Wines was for sale for $25/bottle or $13/bottle down a few buildings at the Carolina Vineyards tasting center. You do not have to wait for a group to join you like at Duplin Winery. Barefoot Landing is one of the three locations of this wine outlet. Their web site has additional details.
La Belle Amie Vineyard
This Vinyard, located in North Carolina, sells wine under the name Twisted Sisters. They are open Tuesday through Saturday north of the condos in Little River. Their web siteprovides additional details.
Craft Beer locations
All the craft beer breweries are located in Myrtle Beach. Visit their web sites for hours and location details. Just a few are listed here.
